It may just be me but, sometimes I am in the mood for a predictable romance, and Bethany Ashton Wolf delivers just such a film with her directing and script writing for “Forever My Girl”.
.
Alex Roe (The 5th Wave) is country music Star Liam Page, who comes back to both the home town and Josie (Jessica Rothe, Happy Death Day) the woman he left behind eight years before. John Benjamin Hickey (Flags of the Fathers), Abby Ryder Fortson (Ant-Man), and Peter Cambor (NCIS: Los Angeles) help tell the story and keep it moving with the strong performances that had me experiencing a range of emotional reactions, including a couple of moments that call for a “mascara alert”. There are some scenic shots that show the beauty of Louisiana, making me wondering where I can find a town like Saint.
I appreciate that this is a film that does not go beyond the romance and into adult only moments, and in that vein, “Forever My Girl” delivers on every level. This is a film that is not getting nearly the level of promotion it should to get people into the theater, so do your part and get a group together, go to a matinee, fall in love, laugh, and even cry a little.
