What price would you pay for wealth and power or what sacrifice would you make for a dream to come true? Just about everyone has a limit, with some more than others. Given what Grace (Samara Weaving) went through in Ready or Not, that price is probably a lot higher than it used to be, and she is about to find out.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come is the latest film co-directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin (Abigail) and Tyler Gillett (Scream), also known as “Radio Silence”. Along with Samara Weaving, this film features Kathryn Newton, Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Cronenberg, Shawn Hatosy, and Olivia Cheng. This time around, Grace, having just survived the events of the first film now has a bigger price to pay as she and her sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton), are now being hunted by members of four different influential and powerful families in order to keep their power. And so, the hunt is on again.
I do not see any nominations at the end of the year from this cast, but the work was still good overall for this type of film, especially the villains. I do have to give a shout out to Elijah Woods, who played “the lawyer,” the person who was overseeing the events and making sure no rules were broken; his performance was perfect for the role and really enhanced my enjoyment.
I am always skeptical of sequels, but this one is good if you enjoyed the first one buy keeping the premise of Grace being hunted by elite snobs while still taking that story in a bit of a different direction. This one is not a copycat, and that is a good thing because I think it could actually stand on its own. Just like the original, there is a great balance of violence comedy, which can be tough to do. With all of that, I will definitely recommend Ready or Not 2: Here I Come to be seen at a twilight showing in the theaters.
